Tarpan
Sacred water-offering ritual to honour ancestors on the holy banks of Maa Ganga
Service Description
Tarpan (or Tarpaṇa) is a Vedic water-offering ritual performed to express gratitude to Pitras (departed ancestors) and seek their blessings. The offering is made with Ganga jal, sesame (til), and mantras, symbolising nourishment, respect, and remembrance. As per traditional Vedic texts, Pitras eagerly await Tarpan, and performing it brings: - peace to the departed - harmony & protection to the family - removal of subtle karmic blocks (Pitra-related obstacles) ✨ Why Tarpan is Important Based on classical sources: ✔ Pitras bless those who remember them ✔ Not performing Tarpan may delay certain blessings ✔ Til (gingelly) is especially sacred and used in all Pitra rituals ✔ The offering is done with specific hand positions (Pitra Tirtha) ✔ Worn thread (yajnopavita) is shifted to prāchīnāvīti to show humility and respect These details are followed exactly as per Vedic tradition by Swarg Ashram priests. ✨ How the Ritual is Performed (45-Minute Format) At Swarg Ashram Ghat, Rishikesh, the priest performs: 1. Sankalp Your name, Gotra and the names of departed ancestors are invoked. 2. Tilatarpana Offering Water, black sesame (til), flowers, and mantras are offered through the left palm, as per Pitru-tirtha tradition. 3. Chanting of Pitra Mantras Vedic mantras are recited to guide the souls and bring peace. 4. Flow Offering to Maa Ganga The offering flows into the sacred river, symbolising release, nourishment, and gratitude. 5. Final Blessings The priest prays for Pitra Shanti, protection, harmony, and prosperity for your family. ✨ Benefits of Tarpan ✔ Peace & upliftment of departed ancestors ✔ Removal of Pitra-related obstacles ✔ Emotional healing & closure for family ✔ Blessings of stability, clarity, and harmony ✔ Strengthened connection to your lineage ✔ Ideal for those who cannot perform full Shraddha or Pind Daan
